Day 11
The Star of Bethlehem

Pastor Commentaries,

The star over Bethlehem that led the Magi to Jesus is without explanation.  There are theories, but no facts.  The best that anyone can up with is:

1.  It was a miracle of God.  God placed the star, not normally in the sky there for this one occasion and only a few people saw it.

2.  It was an illumination of a current star.  This means that the star is currently in our sky and God illuminated it more brightly so that the right people would see it at the right time.

3.  All the planets were lined up.  Somewhat like an eclipse, the solar system aligned in a manner that allowed this star to shine more brightly than usual.  In theory, this would mean that the same star will appear in the same spot again once a similar rotation happens.

I have no idea which theory is correct, but if I had to hazard a guess, I would pick option 2.  That said I don’t believe it really matters.  What I think does matter is that something extraordinary occurred to guide people to Jesus.  While others might have been blind to the guidance of God, a few had their eyes open to see the pathway to Jesus.

I believe that God guides each of us towards His Son Jesus.  The signs are evident everywhere.  The question then is will we be like the Magi from 2000 years ago who saw the star, or will be like everyone else back then, who carried on their merry way?
