Artist Comments: “Peachy Keen”, fondly known as “Peach”, died at the young age of 12 in December 2007 after a heroic battle with colic and the surgery that followed. Peach and my daughter, Laura, grew up together forming a close bond through all the years they were in pony club. They participated in Prince Philip games, jumping, cross country, dressage and lots of trail riding. Laura and Peach earned their way to C level in Pony club.
This panel is a tribute to this memorable pony, capturing the free spirit and ‘Alpha’ mare attitude she had. A Shetland/Appendix QH cross, Peach believed she was much larger than her 13.3hh stature., Peach LOVED to jump, easily tackling a 3’6″ jumping course with ears pricked, eagerly looking for the next obstacle. She loved it so much, that on numerous occasions she would play while at liberty in the arena choosing jumps to leap over on her own. She would also follow Laura across the small cross country course at the Riding Club jumping along side Laura.
This fabulous little horse is sadly missed by many who knew and loved her. Her character and spirit will hopefully continue to touch those who view her likeness on the Le Cadeau Du Chavel mural.
