Education Versus Schooling

Education Versus Schooling

Teaching Statement:

Metis pedagogy was traditionally land-based. Learning in traditional Métis communities and families was a lifelong endeavour that included family members, knowledge-keepers, ceremonies, and was land-based.

Reflective Questions:

Compare land-based learning to traditional teaching methodologies. What lessons does the standard K-12 educational process miss out on? What values do you think are being upheld in a Western form of education? What values were being ignored by omitting land-based learning?

If you went to school for eight years and yet only had only a grade three education, how would this affect the way you see yourself?
