Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project is excited to announce our collaboration with West Shore Arts Council for the installation of the Canada Connects West Coast Regional Mural on May 18, 2022.

The Canada Connects West Coast Regional mural is one of four Regional Mural Mosaics launched in 2021 for the Global Roots Project that also includes murals for Prairies & Territories, Central Canada and Atlantic Provinces. Participants from Canada’s West Coast and across the country began painting tiles for this mural mosaic production in Summer, 2021 to bring this amazing art piece together.

Mural Mosaic has been creating art that inspires Unity through Diversity with their mosaics installed throughout North America since 2003. Commissioned by communities, schools, charities and businesses alike, they are sought after for this unique message of connection that their murals convey.

Launched in April 2021 during a global health crisis that had many people feeling isolated and disconnected, Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project set out to reconnect the world through the joy of art. This installation collaboration with BGC Greater Halifax is a wonderful opportunity to connect the art painted by our participants in a mosaic of shared expressions of creativity.

The West Shore Arts Council serves the residents of five communities: Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Metchosin and Highlands, which form part of the Capital Regional District on Southern Vancouver Island. Their mission to foster creativity, innovation, collaboration, and diversity of thought through actively engaging Westshore communities in the sharing or their art, culture and heritage in ways that are meaningful to them is in harmony with the mission of the Global Roots project. We are very excited to collaborate on this mural together.

‘The West Shore Arts Council is excited to receive the West Coast Regional Mural. Our participants vary in ages from younger students to seasoned Artists, to grandparents. This project has allowed us to bring together a myriad of Artists for one purpose, Connection & Community. The pandemic, forced the Arts community to revisit how we view Art & gave us an opportunity to evolve engagement with our communities. Your project has been invigorating on many levels and we’re hoping a new generation of Artist is born & emerges as a result. Receiving news about your project was well timed & allowed us to pivot to model & step into new collaborative relationships. As we all look forward to the unveiling, Spring will be in full bloom & this event will mark a rebirthing of community activity & participation. As local students look forward to participating, so too, do local community members. This project is an example, highlights the beauty a community can create, the sole criteria is to be bold & have a willingness to participate. Participants from Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Metchosin and Highlands will contribute several groupings of painted tiles that will connect with the tiles painted by participants both from Canada’s West Coast and across the country.

The Canada Connects West Coast Regional Mural will be unveiled in Langford on May 18th, 2022.

The Global Roots Project and installation of the Canada Connects West Coast Regional Mural is funded entirely by its participants including the tiles, production and donation of the physical mural to West Shore Arts Council.

The Global Roots Project is the inspiration of Sturgeon County, AB’s Mural Mosaic as they lead the creative charge to reconnect the world through the beauty and joy of putting brush to canvas to create collaborative mosaic murals. The project is currently registering participants for Canada Connects Seasons and America Connects Regional murals with more countries being added in the coming months.
