The horse came to North America with the early Spanish Conquistadors and became one of the few benefits that Native Americans enjoyed from this meeting of worlds. But what a legacy it was. The horse made it possible for the great Plains Tribes to prosper in a harsh environment and, for a time, repel the invaders that were to come in later centuries.
