In 2004 I rented a farmhouse in Saskatchewan, Canada, for 10 months to paint. In exchange for minimal rent, we had to take care of the animals – Bear the Chocolate Lab, Lucky the cat, George the goat, and Centennial the retired RCMP horse. Centennial was the most incredible, gentle horse, and my first and only experience with horses. At first her size and power were intimidating, but before long she was like a kindred spirit. She would softly touch her forehead against mine.
