Nomad is a grey Arab who is successfully recovering from months of treatment for a malignant tumor found near his eye. This type of skin cancer (melanoma) is very common in grey horses because they have higher levels of melanin pigmentation. Although not usually fatal, these lumps can interfere with vision or essential body functions.
Nomad is an endurance horse. The Arabian is extremely sought after for endurance riding because of the breed’s stamina. Some endurance rides can be over 100 miles in a day!
When I saw my panel, I imagined it to be desert sand in the moonlight. I also had a lovely photo of Nomad resting that I had wanted to do something with. It seemed the perfect match. My painting is a dreamy image of the ‘horse of the nomadic Bedouin people’ resting beneath the stars.
